Crystal Springs Pipeline No. 2 (CSPL2) is a major water main in San Mateo County transporting drinking water to Hillsborough, Burlingame, Millbrae, South San Francisco, Daly City and Brisbane residents and businesses. CSPL2 was built in the 1930s, and is in need of seismic upgrades and repairs. Here are some photos capturing our work and what the community looked like in the 1930s and 1950s.
2.5 million Bay Area customers receive drinking water from the Hetch Hetchy reservoir located in Yosemite National Park. The Hetch Hetch Water System was built in the early 1900s and was considered to be an engineering marvel in its time. Our water travels more than 167 miles and across three earthquake faults. Critical components of the system have reached the end of their useful life and are vulnerable to earthquakes. The Water System Improvement Program (WSIP) will repair, replace and seismically upgrade our infrastructure to ensure a consistently reliable water supply, particularly following an earthquake or drought.

CSPL2 E-Newsletter & Twitter Account Launches This Week
The CSPL2 e-newsletter and the CSPL2 Twitter account will launch simultaneously this week to ensure proactive and efficient communication goals are met to San Mateo County residents, businesses and motorists.
To date, the CSPL2 project has captured 250 e-mail addresses. Most of the e-mail addresses belong to city leaders, elected officials, schools officials and leaders of large community groups. We are hoping that with your help, the number of contacts will grow as you begin to forward the e-newsletter to your friends and family. The first e-newsletter will include a link of the project's video, and instruction on how to stay connected with us as construction progresses through the neighborhoods.
We hope that you will find our e-newsletter to be an attractive and interactive way to learn about our project. In addition, we have tried to make it easy for you to forward the e-newsletter to your friends, family and coworkers. We encourage you to stay connected with us by the project blog and e-newsletter, but also recognize that you may have a preference.
The Twitter account will serve an entirely different purpose. "ElCaminoH2OWork" is designated to announce traffic delays on El Camino Real as a result of the work being conducted by the SFPUC in 2011 and 2012. The water pipeline work conducted on El Camino Real will commence this spring. Like any large and complicated project, construction schedules will change. We will do our very best to keep you up to speed with this Twitter account.
TAKE THE TIME TO REGISTER YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS. In the blue box to the right of this post, register your e-mail to receive our monthly e-newsletter.
Should you have questions, please contact CSPL2 Communication Liaison Daniel Jaimes at djaimes@sfwater.org or 866-973-1476.
