Utility Relocation Work Starting on El Camino Real in Millbrae

In early November, Level 3 Communications (a utility provider) will work with Ranger Pipelines, Inc. to relocate utility lines away from the regional water main in need of replacement. The Crystal Springs Pipeline No. 2 (CSPL2) construction work along El Camino Real was temporarily halted because of this utility conflict.

To prepare for this work, limited construction will begin in early November and continue through mid-December. This work will include some limited excavation along El Camino Real to relocate these utilities lines.

Utility relocation work area:
Work Area #10: On El Camino Real between La Cruz Ave. to Victoria Ave.

As the work areas are within the southbound lanes of El Camino Real, limited lane closures are expected. Northbound and southbound traffic will be maintained, although southbound traffic may be limited to one lane.

Work Hours:
Monday-Friday
7AM to 2PM

El Camino Real Work Begins Between Edgehill Dr. and Willow Ave. in Burlingame

Construction Activities
Beginning Oct. 24, Ranger Pipelines, Inc. will install the next pipe segments of Crystal Springs Pipeline No. 2(CSPL2) along El Camino Real.

Pipeline installation will begin in the coming weeks with excavation of two access pits along El Camino Real–one between Edgehill Dr. and Forest View Ave., and another pit between Arc Way and Willow Ave. The work will occur in the southbound lane closest to the sidewalk.Once the pits are in place, installation equipment will be mobilized, and then pipe segments will begin to arrive.

What to Expect?
For residents who live along El Camino Real, the current work sites are not expected to impact any driveway access to residences or businesses. However, if any driveway access blockage is anticipated, notices will be distributed at least 24 hours prior to the start of work.

Traffic control measures will be in place during work hours to direct traffic along El Camino Real, and, if needed, to assist those who live near the work areas. The pipeline access pits and the surrounding work areas are approximately 300 feet long and require at least one lane closure on El Camino Real. Once in place, these access pits can remain for 3-6 months, depending on the weather and installation conditions. Pits will be covered by metal plates at the end of each work day. The contractor will also abide by the local noise ordinance.

El Camino Real Work Hours:
Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Restoration Work Coming to South San Francisco!

Our contractor is in the final stretch of construction for the Crystal Springs Pipeline No. 2 (CSPL2) Replacement Project in your area. We expect this pipeline construction work to be complete within the next two weeks!

We recognize that construction progress has been slower than anticipated. Unfortunately, the discovery of undocumented utility lines (such as cable television, residential gas connections, etc.) within many of our work area streets did slow our work. In order to complete work safely and maintain local property owner utility connections, relocation of these utilities had to take place before our work could progress.

However, our work - including pipe-welding within the newly placed pipe and pipeline testing - is still moving forward. Once welding and testing are complete, road surface restoration can occur. Restoration plans are currently being finalized and will be underway in the coming weeks.

We, along with the City of South San Francisco, continue to work with adjacent property owners and community members to address concerns and questions. Please let us know (via phone at 866-973-1476) if you have a concern that is not being addressed.

Thank you!
We would like to thank the South San Francisco community for their patience during construction. CSPL2 was first installed in the mid-1930s and this is the first time we have replaced portions of the pipeline in the South San Francisco area. This work will upgrade the region's water delivery system to ensure water remains available following a major earthquake. These replacement efforts are intended to last a lifetime (80+ years).

Hillsborough Work Starting On Chelmsford Road & Sierra Drive

Upcoming Construction Activities
Ranger Pipelines, Inc. is replacing Crystal Springs Pipeline No. 2 (CSPL2), a large pipeline that provides water to San Mateo and San Francisco counties. Work in the Hillsborough area is expected to begin during the week of October 17.

To successfully complete this project, the contractor will close a portion of Chelmsford Road between Woodstock Road and W. Santa Inez Ave. Excavation of the road is necessary to expose and replace the water pipeline. Your water service will not be interrupted.

The work area near Sierra Drive will occur within the SFPUC right of way, next to a private property. Large trucks will access this work area using Sierra Drive and vehicles will be parked along this narrow residential street. Residents and parents who use this road are encouraged to take an alternate route.

Parking & Traffic Impacts
To complete construction quickly, traffic control measures and detours will be in place. Detour signs and flaggers will redirect non-local traffic away from the work areas. Parking will not be permitted near our work areas.

Work Hours & Schedule
The contractor will abide by the city’s noise ordinance. Because our pipeline is near the creek, safety and environmental monitors will be onsite to oversee construction activity and protect sensitive species.

Construction is expected to last until late November or early December depending on weather conditions.

Work hours:
Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
